Mixed Chorus

Mixed Chorus is for the beginning choral student who has little to no previous ensemble experience. Basic vocal technique, part singing and note reading are taught through engaging 2 and 3 part choral literature. This choir is open to any gender student who wishes to explore choral music. Students will participate in 3 concerts throughout the year. Concert dress for this choir is black pants, socks, and shoes, and a black shirt with no collar. Students will be assigned a choir robe.

Aeolian Choir

Aeolian Choir is an all female group comprised of freshman who have had previous choral experiences, and are recommended by their Middle School Choral Directors. Vocal technique and development, as well as solfege are the foundation of this class. Choral literature is 2 and 3 part. Students will participate in 3 concerts throughout the year, and possibly a women’s choral festival. Concert dress is a full length black dress that can be purchased through the music department, and flat, black shoes.

Mellodears

Mellodears is an all female group comprised of sophomore through senior women. Intermediate to advanced choral literature in 3 and 4 part harmony is performed at 3 concerts per year, in addition to participation in a women’s choral festival. This choir is for the more advanced music student who has previous choral experience. Concert dress is a full length black dress that can be purchased through the music department, and flat, black shoes.

Concert Choir

Concert Choir is for the intermediate to advanced music student who wishes to explore more challenging choral literature. This choir is open to any gender student who is ready to work at a faster pace, and has a higher developed sight singing skill level. Students will participate in 3 concerts a year in addition to choral festivals. Concert dress for women is a full length black dress that can be purchased through the music department, and flat, black shoes. Men wear black dress pants, a white tuxedo shirt, black bow tie, black vest, black shoes and socks.

Chamber Choir

Chamber Choir is the premier choir of Elgin High School. Requirements include: strong individual vocal skills, ability to sight read and memorize literature quickly, and strong leadership skills and maturity are essential. Chamber Choir provides numerous performance opportunities, and represents Elgin High School in the community. In addition to a rigorous concert schedule, they also perform in the annual Madrigal Dinner. Audition is a pre-requisite to becoming a member. Concert dress for women is a full length black dress that can be purchased through the music department, and flat, black shoes. Men wear black dress pants, a white tuxedo shirt, black bow tie, black jacket, black shoes and socks. Renaissance dress is also required for the Madrigal Dinner and will be provided by the Choral Department.
